Hi again.
Its been a great first week here in Uganda. Have spent a
bit of time with our chief contact here, Michael Masembe. Went to see the house we'll be renting, and are negotiating our rent today. Starting price is $300/month, but Michael is famous for his bartering
skills, so we'll probably end up paying $225/month. The house is in
nice condition, and has 4 or 5 main rooms, plus a garage. We'll be
using most of the house for the guitar building. I'm pretty sure I'll
need to buy a mini fridge and some kind of stovetop 'cooker', but we
ought to be in good shape after that. Today we are off to see the
lawyer about the land deal, and tomorrow, the guitar supplies are
supposed to arrive. I am getting excited. I was incredibly
disappointed in the quality and price of the local machinery. All the
machinery is of super low quality, and is 3 or 4 times the price in
Canada. So I am considering my options, and will let you know how that pans out. OK - I'm including some pics I've taken in my downtime here. Hope you enjoy!
If you want to pray - pray that my allergies won't affect me here...
there is always smoke and pollen and blue smoke from vehicles in need
of repair!! even as i write this i'm enjoying the smell of burning
garbage from down in the valley. yuch.
much love
