IA QUICK NOTE FROM IRENA ABOUT THE BANQUET;
"Hi everyone!
And now a few words from Jay...
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here folks – Welcome to the latest edition of the Mpigi Chronicles. Thanks for tuning in. The guitars are looking beautiful! We just finished spraying the final coat on them last night. David has become quite a good painter in the last week – we've been using a water base finish that is better for the environment than the usual paints. It looks promising. It has several traits of my favorite finish, nitrocellulose, but is non-toxic and is easily shipped via air. I hope it performs well as we finish up the guitars.
Two great things happened this week; the first was Irena's safe arrival, complete with luggage, chocolate, and a ton of funny pens and pads of paper for the kids at the orphanage. She is doing well adjusting to the bizarreness of life here and is about to bleach anything and everything under this roof. The second bit of good news, praise the Lord, is that we now have our NGO status!!! It will take about one month to process the registration, but at least we have it. This is awesome news. We can now import our supplies without paying the 53% import duty. We can also request to get the taxes we already paid (almost $2000) back from the government.
As I write to you, the guys are preparing the buffing wheel and pre-fitting the necks onto the bodies. The other day they made bridges out of ebony and did an unbelievable job.
I am trying to take as many pics as I can so you can feel like you're a part of this with us. It has sure taken a lot of effort and time from a ton of different people to get this far. On behalf of Isaac and David, "Webele' Mukwano." (Thank-you, my friend).
Irena and I have rented a small motorcycle and have been enjoying the adventure of trying to remember how to ride again. She seems to be o.k. as long as we stay in 2nd gear. Anything faster and she might hop the next train, I mean plane, out of here!
Anyways, I have got to get back to the guys. Thanks for the prayers. Things have been going well for the last couple weeks and I think it must have something to do with the Lord. I sure haven't been doing anything differently.
Funny news. A few days ago I was in Kampala at the fancy pants mall, and I ran into Clint and Erin Senior from Peace Portal in Surrey, BC. It is a small, small world out here folks.
Before I sign off, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has written to encourage me. I do get to see your notes, but gmail was weird this week and so I couldn't email you back. Your letters do make it easier to be here.
Much Peace,
Jay Duncan
