Hi everybody! (from Vancouver this time)
Well lots has been happening here at DA since I returned home about a month ago. I hope you have been doing well, and are enjoying this beautiful spring we are having (or is this supposed to be summer?).
I'll just give you a quick update on a few things that are going on.
Our First Banquet.
It was a great success - over 60 people came out to hear about the pilot project and have some fun out-bidding each other at the silent auction. David Collins, who started Canadian Food For The Hungry, came out to give a ringing endorsement of the project. We sold all the available guitars in one night! The guitars all went for between $1200 - $1400. In all, we raised over $8000 towards renovating our building! Hurray! We were also treated to a great dinner by our caterer, Karen Bergen, and her team who all volunteered their time - thanks guys!
Partnering with a University?
Its true. Our team here has been in talks with Ambrose University in Calgary regarding a potential partnership which would connect some of their faculty and students to our students / graduates in Uganda over a four year term through the internet. Pray for us (if you will) next week as we travel to Calgary to meet and continue to work towards a mutually beneficial program.
What are David and Isaac doing?
Well, those two guys are amazing. I just spoke with David tonight, and he is already sending the next guitar! I expect that we will see it sometime next week, possibly by June 27th. Until we move to the next phase of the program, these guitars will sell for $1100 CDN. Questions? feel free to call me.
A New Endorsement
Today I had the pleasure of meeting with singer/songwriter/superb guitarist Norm Strauss. Norm has a heart for what we are doing, and fell in love with the last DA prototype guitar available. He will begin using the Selah model as his main guitar as soon as the electronics are installed, and will be touring Europe with it next fall. We wish Norm all the best as he spreads the word!
When do we return to Uganda?
Right now it looks like it will be in the fall, possibly November. In the meantime, Irena and I will be married on July 26/08! We are looking forward to all the challenges coming our way, but we'll meet them together. We're hoping this experience will help to strengthen our trust in the 'One' who brought us together.
Thank you for all your kind thoughts, prayers and help along the way. We could not be doing this without you.
peace, and blessing,
Jay Duncan
